What Grade 5 Worksheets Cover
Grade 5 students tackle the most challenging elementary math concepts: unlike-denominator fractions, decimal multiplication and division, and percentages. This year prepares students for the transition to middle school math. Core Skills Covered: • Unlike-denominator fraction addition and subtraction (e.g., 2/3 + 1/4) • Fraction multiplication by whole numbers (e.g., 2/3 × 5) • Decimal multiplication and division (up to 2 decimal places) • Percentages: finding the part, the whole, and the percent (10%, 25%, 50%) • 3–4 step order of operations with nested parentheses • Combining like terms in simple algebraic expressions Percentage Foundations: Grade 5 percentages focus on the most common benchmarks: 10%, 25%, and 50%. Students learn to find a percentage of a number ("25% of 80"), find the whole given a part ("20 is 25% of what number?"), and find the percentage given part and whole. These benchmarks build intuition before more complex percentages in Grade 6. Unlike Fractions: For the first time, students work with fractions that have different denominators. Our generator carefully selects denominators (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12) so the least common multiple is always manageable. Every answer simplifies automatically. Pre-Algebra Readiness: Combining like terms (3x + 2x = 25) and solving simple two-step equations build the algebraic reasoning needed for middle school. The problems are designed so the arithmetic stays clean, keeping the focus on the algebraic concept.
